Frequently Asked Questions

  • All documents must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) system.
  • There are no minimum score criteria for applying.
  • Interviews may be extended before Step 2 CK/Level 2 CE scores are available. However, a passing score is required before submitting the rank order list.
  • Preference is given to candidates who graduated from medical school within the 5 years.
  • Texas Tech Health El Paso is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas.

An interview invitation will be received via ERAS scheduler with email on ERAS file.

Yes. However, applicants with more than two attempts on any of the three USMLE Steps are discouraged from applying.

Interviews take place mid-October through mid-January.

All interviews will be virtual for the season.

Yes, with a valid ECFMG certificate and medical school diploma.

No. While Spanish fluency is helpful, there are many bilingual staff members and certified medical translators to assist with translation.

No. USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3 does not need to be completed before applying.

All PGY-1 residents, including residents in the Transitional Year (TY) Residency Program, must take USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3, as applicable, by the end of the PGY-1 training year or by completion of the TY Residency Program.

USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3, as applicable, must be passed by March 1 or at least four months before completion of the PGY-2 year.
