As part of the Inaugural Global Health Conference at TTUHSC El Paso, there will be an opportunity to present a poster on research related to global health. Abstracts may present new information or previously published or presented information.

Posters will be displayed throughout the day of the conference; however, at least one author is required to be at the poster display for the duration of the poster session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. By submitting a research abstract for display, the author(s) agree to be available to present.

Abstract Submissions

Please complete the attached abstract registration and submission forms.

Email the two completed forms as attachments to DiversityInclusionGlobalHealth@ttuhsc.edu by Nov. 15. 

No submissions will be accepted after this deadline.

Submission Criteria:

1. The primary author/presenter must register for the conference.
2. Each presenter may submit a maximum of two abstracts.
3. The abstract should contain:
   • A short and descriptive title (do not include acronyms in the abstract title).
   • A detailed description of the poster (500 words or less):
     • Purpose: A concise statement about the problem under investigation or hypothesis.
     • Methods: A concise statement about the experimental methods, qualitative methods, and interventions used, and/or data analyzed.
     • Results: Graphs, charts, tables, images and bulleted lists are allowed. Specific findings must be included. Broad generalizations or the promise "to be completed" will not be accepted.
   • Conclusions/findings.
   • Significance: Potential outcomes.
4. Abstracts will be accepted for presentation based on the merit of the data presented in the abstract. Incomplete or improperly executed abstracts will be rejected. Submission of an abstract does not guarantee acceptance for presentation at the conference. All decisions by the planning committee regarding which abstracts are accepted for presentation are final.

Poster Session

The primary author will receive all communication about the poster session, including notification of acceptance. The poster session will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 11, 2019, in the Medical Education Building (MEB) lobby.

Abstract submissions are due by Nov. 15, 2019.

Authors will be notified of acceptance by Nov. 29, 2019.

During the poster session, the presenter must remain at the display to answer questions and discuss the content of his/her display. The planning committee cannot accommodate alternative scheduling requests. At least one of the authors must be present throughout the allotted time.

Creating and Mounting Your Poster

Remember that a poster is a visual presentation, so try to explain your idea in a visually appealing way. The poster should include a title, an abstract, and the author's/authors' first and last names, affiliation(s), and contact information (department, address, city, ZIP code, email).
The poster should also specify the purpose, methods, results, conclusions/findings and significance of your research. Use figures, diagrams, graphics or easy-to-read tables to explain and illustrate your results and/or findings. Use bullets instead of sentences as much as possible.
Use active, rather than passive verbs. Avoid background graphics that make text difficult to read. The recommended minimum font size is 18 pt. The name(s) of the presenter(s) and their institutional/organizational affiliation(s) should also be included in the heading, but can be printed in a smaller font. All lettering should be easily legible at a distance of four feet. Do not simply print out 8 1/2" x 11" sheets from a PowerPoint presentation. All posters must be confined to the 4' x 8' bulletin board provided. Push-pins will be available.
