Dr. Velazquez has a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master in Educational Administration from New Mexico State University (NMSU) and a Doctor in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

Dr. Velazquez brings a strong background in educational leadership and research with over 20 years of experience working at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). She has extensive administrative experience in accordance with institutional objectives, policies and procedures.
Dr. Velazquez is skilled in collecting and analyzing data, and preparing and developing statistical analyses and reports. She is knowledgeable in providing guidance with budget development and strategic planning, as well as overseeing major financial accounts, including state funds, grants, gifts and endowments. She can provide various financial, analytical and business transactional support.
Dr. Velazquez is a teacher and mentor, capable of planning, coordinating and executing student success activities. Furthermore, she has experience in conceiving and building programs from the ground up through proven competencies in administrative leadership, project and program management, staff development and empowerment.
Dr. Velazquez has an extensive background of developing, implementing and managing sponsored programs under NCLB, NIH and NSF for secondary and post-secondary first-generation students, at-risk and financial need students, racially and ethnically diverse populations and second-language learners. She is an effective communicator in English and Spanish with excellent planning and organizational strengths, as well as the ability to lead, establish goals and attain results.
