Dr. Minton specializes in obstetric anesthesia and also is experienced in anesthesia
for trauma and regional anesthesia. As a native east Texan, he pursued his undergraduate
studies at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas and went on to graduate from Texas
Tech University School of Medicine in 1989 after completing his clinical years on
the El Paso campus. His post graduate training includes an internship in general surgery
at St. Francis Hospital Hartford, Connecticut in 1989 and was followed by residency
in anesthesiology from The University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine Farmington,
CT in 1990. He maintains licenses with New Mexico, Minnesota, Arkansas, and Texas
and has been a practicing board certified anesthesiologist since 1996. He is a member
of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), New Mexico Society of Anesthesiologists
(NMSA), Texas Society of Anesthesiologists (TSA), Society of Obstetric Anesthesia
and Perinatology (SOAP), and the American Medical Association (AMA). He has held
academic appointments with University of New Mexico School of Medicine from 1993 to
2004 where he achieved the rank of associate professor and has been with Texas Tech
Health El Paso since 2013. He has been a director of obstetrics anesthesia at The
University Hospital at Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as performed institutionally
sponsored anesthesia locums functions throughout the state of New Mexico. He was in
private practice from 2004 to 2013 where he served as the chairman of anesthesiology
at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas from 2004 to 2009. Dr. Minton was
voted Physician of the Month Recognition by the board of managers of John Peter Smith
Hospital in 2006 and Top Doc for two years in a row by Fort Worth Magazine in 2007-08.
